From Vision to Invention: A Road Map for Creating a Live Show

You have an idea for a show! Now you need to make it happen. This workshop will go through the ins and outs of building a live production from the ground up – from budget creation and rehearsal coordination, to contract management, shaping your team, and marketing. This workshop applies to all performance art forms, and consists of lecture-style information, practical elements, and a Q&A. At the end you’ll have practical tools to plan your next live show.
Presented as part of the Dougherty Arts Center’s Artist Professional Development program and Early Era Collective’s Embolden Workshops series.
This event is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required.
About Stephanie Patrick
Stephanie Patrick is an Austin, Texas native. She has been dancing since she was two years old and has performed professionally for over 20 years. She is the Artistic Director of Early Era Collective, which she founded in 2018.
Stephanie received a Bachelor of Arts in Drama at University of Oklahoma before dancing, choreographing, and teaching in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Asheville, New York City and Austin. Stephanie has danced for multiple companies across the nation, including Desert Dance Theatre, Andrea Torres Dance Company, Twisted Oak Theatre, Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, Blipswitch, Tapestry Dance Company, and more. Her 12 years of teaching include City Dance and Alonzo King Lines Dance Center in San Francisco.
Stephanie moved back to Austin in 2016 to start a professional dance company in her hometown. After returning to the city, she saw a need to use dance to bring people together across I-35. She loves blending collaborative, multiform dance with storytelling to unite people and generate empathy.

Early Era Collective is a professional dance company based in Austin, Texas that unites artists and audiences across identity and culture. We believe all people should be free, and we have hope for our future. Our high-quality, collaborative productions strive to invoke connection, empathy, and action.
Each Early Era production shares a story or a message, as illustrated through multiform dance such as contemporary/modern, hip hop and other street styles, tap, and ballet dance. We also collaborate with filmmakers, poets, and actors to share our message through multiple mediums and perspectives. We believe that creative work is strongest when collaboratively made by individuals with a variety of training, artistic processes, lived experience, and world views.
