The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center is open by appointment only.

At the Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center, you can drop off many items to be recycled, reused or safely discarded. You can also pick up free items to reuse yourself.

Eligibility and Cost

  • Free for Austin and Travis County residents.
  • Fees apply for tire drop-off.
  • Fees apply if you do not live in Austin or Travis County.
  • Businesses are not eligible to drop off hazardous waste. For information about how businesses can dispose of hazardous waste, call 512-974-4335.

 

Drop-off items at the Recycle and Reuse Drop-Off Center

Household Hazardous Waste

Drop off your household hazardous waste for safe disposal or reuse. Throwing household hazardous waste in the trash or pouring it down the drain is dangerous and harmful to the environment.

Accepted Household Hazardous Waste items:

  • Cleaning products
  • Automotive fluids and oil filters
  • Paint and thinners
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Batteries (car and household)
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Mercury
  • Aerosol cans
  • Pool chemicals
  • Cooking oil
  • Propane cylinders

Not Accepted Household Hazardous Waste items:

  • Radioactive Materials
  • Syringes and medical waste
  • Explosive materials (including ammunition)
  • Any waste generated by a business

Safety guidelines for Household Hazardous Waste

  • Bring products in original containers; do not mix.
  • Bring items in 5-gallon (or smaller) containers. 
  • Put small containers upright in sturdy boxes.
  • If something is leaking, put it in a container and absorb the spill with cat litter.
  • Do not bring items in a trash bag. Containers can get damaged and their contents may mix, causing a reaction.

The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center does not accept:

  • Mattresses
  • Furniture
  • Toilets
  • Non-recyclable trash
  • Styrofoam packing peanuts

Tires

There is a fee to drop off tires. The fee depends on the size of the tire:

  • 19 in. or smaller – $6 each
  • 20 in. or larger – $7 each

Brush and yard trimmings

Brush drop off has moved to the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant. Effective September 1, 2021, the Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center will no longer accept brush drop off but will divert their customers to the Hornsby location at 2210 FM 973. The new location has a much larger capacity for brush drop off and will prevent some of the traffic jams and safety hazards previously experienced at the multi-purpose Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center. No appointment is necessary at Hornsby.

Pick-up items at the Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center

The Reuse Store

The ReUse Store is where visitors can pick up items in good, usable condition that others have dropped off at the Center. Items in the store are free for everyone, but availability varies. 

Items at the Reuse Store may include:

  • Art supplies
  • Cleaning products
  • Household chemicals
  • Automotive fluids

Austin Reblend Paint

Austin ReBlend is a 100 percent post-consumer, reblended flat paint (with low VOCs) made from paint collected at the Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center. The paint is free for individuals, nonprofits and businesses, but an appointment is needed. Colors and availability vary.

Mulch

Mulch is available for pickup for free. You must load the mulch yourself.
