Americans with Disabilities Act Office

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications. As one of the most accessible cities in the United States, the Austin ADA Program Office ensures that all City services and programs are accessible to all people with disabilities, including job applicants and employees of the City of Austin.

According to Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a public entity that has a minimum of 50 employees is required to designate an individual to oversee their compliance of the ADA including in employment of people with disabilities. As one of the most accessible cities in the United States, the Austin ADA Program Office located in the Austin Human Resources (AHR) Department is dedicated to providing equal employment opportunities for applicants and employees with disabilities. Requests are processed through the City’s Reasonable Accommodation Procedure.
