Row of modern three-story townhomes with gabled metal roofs and warm-toned siding, surrounded by landscaped greenery, blooming trees, and a clean residential street. Several people are walking or talking outside, contributing to a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere under a partly cloudy blue sky.

District 3 community will bring 12 new townhomes, including 2, 4-bedroom affordable homes

AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin Housing Department and the Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) celebrate the groundbreaking of Mira, a new residential townhome mixed-income, missing middle community. The development is being led by Aus/Bos Social Housing and managed by HomeBase, a non-profit affiliate of Austin Habitat for Humanity. Construction began in April 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by Winter 2025. For inquiries about purchasing a home at Mira, please visit www.miraaustin.com.

"The Mira development presents an important opportunity for expanding homeownership options to families pursuing stability and equity," explains Mandy DeMayo, Interim Director for the Housing Department. "Achieving deeper affordability for households in need takes a village. We are grateful to our partners and are proud to support this effort through our funding programs."

Mira, located in the Govalle neighborhood at 732 Springdale Road in District 3, will include 12 townhomes, two of which will be four-bedroom homes reserved for households earning at or below 65% Median Family Income (MFI). The AHFC executed a loan agreement of $240,000 in 2018 General Obligation (GO) Bonds to fund the construction of those two affordable homes. HomeBase will manage the initial sale of the two affordable homes. The site will also utilize the City’s S.M.A.R.T. Housing Program.

“We’re thrilled to partner with AHFC and other community all-stars to bring the project to life,” said Anmol Mehra, Owner of Aus/Bos Social Housing. “Our mission is to develop residential housing that sit at the intersection of density, affordability, and social impact, and the collaborative effort behind Mira ensures that we’re delivering on that.”

Mira’s three-story duplex townhomes were designed by Austin-based architecture firm Plural Office and are being constructed by Pecan Valley Homes, a local residential builder. The development gained letters of support from the Govalle Neighborhood Association and Springdale General. Offering a fresh take on mid-century design, the homes pair modern gables and warm brick with interiors defined by an earthy, refined palette.

“There is an urgent and growing need for affordable housing in our community, particularly for larger families who are often left with limited options,” said Juana Palacios, Vice President & Broker at HomeBase Texas. “This development directly addresses that gap by providing deeply affordable 4-bedroom homes—something that has been in critically short supply. It's not just about building housing; it's about creating stability and opportunity for families who need it most.”
