The Asian Community Liaison works closely with all of the Asian American communities, including but not limited to: Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Indian, Burmese and Nepali. This position centers around community outreach, mainly focusing on educating the aforementioned communities about public safety, and the importance of overcoming the cultural stigma ingrained in many Asian nations when it comes to interacting with police. By attending community events, facilitating presentations and discussions with police officers, the Asian Community Liaison is able to bridge the gap between Asian American populations and law enforcement. Additionally, this position collaborates with local Asian business, organizations, schools and religious groups to plan future culturally specific programs and activities to further integrate the Asian American populations within its Austin community.
