Fire Drills/Evacuation

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) helps companies or organizations conduct a fire drills and building evacuation exercises. AFD will meet with representatives to review and provide advice on evacuation practices in accordance with current fire code. AFD is not able to certify evacuation plans. 

Fire Truck Appearances

The Austin Fire Department will coordinate fire engine or ladder truck visits to daycares, schools and community events upon request, if one is available. We cannot accommodate requests for private events to for visits to individual residences. A minimum attendance of at least 50 people is required. Please provide at least two weeks advance notice so that an apparatus can be scheduled. 

During the appearance, firefighters can explain features of the apparatus, talk about the job of firefighting, and provide safety information. Firefighters may also distribute stickers for the children and fire safety pamphlets for adults who request them. Station Visits

AFD will accompany visits to the fire stations for groups of no more than 30. We cannot accommodate requests for private events at fire stations. 

Normal visiting hours for the stations are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visitors are provided a station tour where they can view the fire apparatus, and ask firefighters questions about their job, fire safety, the station and the Austin Fire Department. To arrange a tour, contact the AFD Community Engagement at FireCommunityEngagement@austintexas.gov at least a week in advance.
