On Friday, July 18, 2025, at approximately 3:07 a.m. Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8000 block of S. IH 35 NB SRVD. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. The pedestrian, later identified as Nakia L. Dawson, was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased on July 22, 2025, at 2:58 p.m.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 52nd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 56 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 43 fatal crashes resulted in 46 deaths.
