Victim (Deceased): Edwin Pulgar, Hispanic male, 6/12/2009

Suspect (Arrested): Santana Gonzales, Hispanic male, 21 years of age
 


On Sunday, August 30, 2026, at approximately 2:58 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1900 block of Woodland Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they located a male victim, later identified as Edwin Pulgar, with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived on scene to provide lifesaving measures, but Mr. Pulgar succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced deceased on the scene at 3:06 p.m.

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene. The investigation determined that Mr. Pulgar was driving his own vehicle when he encountered Gonzales, who was on foot. Gonzales shot Pulgar while he was inside his vehicle. Gonzales was also found to have gang affiliations and is currently a suspect in other shootings that occurred within the past month.

On September 1, 2026, an arrest warrant was issued for Gonzales for First Degree Murder. On September 9, 2026, Gonzales was located and arrested by the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the APD SWAT Team on Skycrest Drive in Austin, Texas.

Location: Intersection of Briar Hill Drive and Woodland Avenue

Deceased: Unidentified male

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, at approximately 2:58 p.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a reported shooting/stabbing in the intersection of Briar Hill Drive and Woodland Avenue.

When APD officers arrived, they discovered a vehicle that had crashed into a fence. Inside, they located an adult male suffering from apparent trauma. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.

Officers immediately began canvassing the area. Witnesses reportedly saw a suspect fleeing the area shortly before officers arrived. 

The suspect is described as:

  • Young Hispanic male
  • Late teen to early 20s
  • Slender build
  • Approximately 5'6” tall
  • He was last seen wearing: A black long-sleeved top that covered his skin, black bottoms, and a black backpack worn on his chest.

APD Homicide Detectives and Austin Forensic Science Crime Scene Specialists responded to the scene. They are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, including video surveillance.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
