Thankful baby and mama deer

Driving to work this morning, I noticed several people standing on the grounds of the St. David's North Austin Medical Center looking concerned and pointing at something. I pulled over and saw they were looking at a baby deer who had become trapped inside a fenced drainage area. Fortunately, an Austin police officer just happened to be driving by, and we flagged her down. She listened as we explained the problem. Just then, a second officer stopped by. Together, the two officers approached the deer and helped guide him over the fence—to freedom! We all made sure the fawn made it safely across the busy street to his anxiously waiting mother, and they disappeared into the greenbelt. These officers exemplify community engagement and service.

Thank you Officers Russell and Cumberbatch!
