AFD Emergency Prevention engineers review site plans, building plans, and fire protection system plans associated with new construction and/or renovations.

Fire Protection Engineering and Plan Review

Engineers and plans examiners in the Fire Marshal’s Office are primarily responsible for enforcing the code requirements of the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) and associated National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards as they apply to fire safety features in the design of buildings, including the design of the overall site, and new and renovated buildings. Features include fire access roads, fire hydrant placement, fire sprinklers, smoke alarms, fire alarm systems, fire pumps, smoke control and ventilation, egress systems, and other special extinguishing systems. Engineering and Plan Review also review plans for hazardous materials compliance and wildland urban interface requirements.
