Youth and adult residents of the 78744 zip code make up the 78744 Community Collaborative Committee (CCC). They play the primary role in assessing needs, receiving program updates, and advising CYD staff on how to implement programs. To join the CCC, please complete the application in English or Spanish. Through an annual Community Strengths and Needs Assessment survey, the CCC is informed of their top five funding priorities; The most recent survey can be seen here.
The 78744 zip code is one of 15 sites (zip codes) of the state's Community Youth Development Program. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services oversees all 15 statewide CYD programs and evaluates them to re view positive changes in juvenile crime rates.
Youth Advisory Committee/Youth Leadership Development
Under CYD, the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is made up of youth between the ages of 13-17 who live or attend school in the 78744 area only. As part of YAC, the youth engage in leadership activities every month. This portion of the YAC is called Youth Leadership Development (YLD). These teens serve as the "youth voice" of the 78744 community and work with the CCC to establish the vision of the local program. The YAC provides community outreach to publicize program services, while emphasizing the perspective and needs of the youth population. At least two YAC members sit on the CCC. The two groups work in partnership to ensure a youth perspective regarding the effectiveness of programs in meeting identified needs and gaps in services.
Please watch a video from our YAC awardee for the 2022 Outstanding Youth Award, we are so proud of Gabriel!
