Austin Municipal Court received an MTSI Traffic Safety Award for the sixth year in a row
Austin, TX - The Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC) awarded the Austin Municipal Court (AMC) a Texas Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) Traffic Safety Award in the High-Volume category (municipality serving more than 150,000 people) for their commitment to traffic safety. The award ceremony occurred on April 3, 2025, at the AC Hotel Waco Downtown, marking the 6th year in a row AMC has received this award.
TMCEC recognized AMC’s traffic safety efforts including, but not limited to, licensing three juvenile case managers to teach the National Safety Council’s 4-hour interactive Traffic Safety Class: Alive at 25. The course, which is offered in both English and Spanish, is offered at no cost to juvenile defendants with traffic violations. Sixty-two young drivers participated in this curriculum through the Court in 2024.
TMCEC’s MTSI grant, funded by the Texas Department of Transportation, sponsors the annual traffic safety awards competition to recognize those municipal courts that have demonstrated outstanding contributions to traffic safety and preventing impaired driving in their communities. Applicants were judged on their activities relating to increasing traffic safety while preventing impaired driving traffic crashes, traffic fatalities, juvenile DUI, child safety seat offenses, red light running, and other traffic related offenses.
TMCEC was formed in 1984 to provide professional continuing education and training programs for municipal judges and court personnel throughout Texas. TMCEC is the largest judicial education organization in Texas and one of the largest such organizations in the U.S. All municipal courts in Texas were eligible to apply for an award from TMCEC.
