On September 1, 2025, at 9:46 p.m., officers from the Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a collision involving two vehicles in the eastbound lanes of 5200 E Ben White Boulevard. The passenger in one of the vehicles, who was later identified as Sheyla Alejandra Mascorro, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of that same vehicle, later identified as Sonia Edith Ramos, was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 71st fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 75 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 59 fatal crashes resulted in 64 deaths.
