On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at approximately 10:12 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a motorcycle collision involving a cyclist at the intersection of South 1st Street and West Slaughter Lane. Both the motorcycle driver and the cyclist were transported to a local hospital. The cyclist, later identified as Jeffrey House, was pronounced deceased at the hospital on January 3, 2026.
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 95th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 99 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2024, 91 fatal crashes resulted in 97 deaths.
