The Commercial Vehicle Loading Zone Ordinance in Austin City Code (Chapter 12-5) authorizes the City of Austin to issue permits to commercial vehicles, creating efficient options for loading and unloading goods and passengers while balancing mobility and safety needs on major roadways.
Commercial Vehicle Loading in Austin
A Commercial Vehicle Loading (CVL) Permit now allows loading and unloading citywide, not just in the Downtown Area Project Coordination Zone. Permit holders may use designated curbside spaces, commercial loading zones, and metered parking areas for loading/unloading, subject to restrictions.
- With a valid CVL permit, vehicles may use curbside areas or metered spaces to load/unload for the duration allowed by the permit.
- In streets with two or more travel lanes in one direction, vehicles with a CVL permit may use a curbside travel lane for loading/unloading where permitted.
- The CVL permit must always be properly displayed and visible from the front windshield when in use.
