Celebrate Black History Month at the Carver

The George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural, and Genealogy Center is proud to present a dynamic month of programming for Black History Month 2026! Did you know that there is a national theme every year for Black History Month? The 2026 theme as developed and created by the Father of Black History Month, Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History is "A Century of Black History Commemorations", marking the 100th anniversary of the first Black History Week in 1926 and exploring the meaning and impact of these commemorations today.  For 100 years, the nation has recognized the achievements and contributions of Black Americans and their place in American history during the month of February. This Black History Month is not simply a date on the calendar; it is a powerful reminder to recognize the generations of Black Americans who fought for inclusion in the historical record, even when the nation resisted acknowledging their humanity. As we honor a century of commemoration, the message remains as clear — Black history is American history. Join the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural, and Genealogy Center as we share, learn, and celebrate the stories, contributions, innovations, achievements, and impact of Black Americans across the span of a century.

We've partnered with local businesses, artists, and organizations to bring East Austin and beyond an exciting month of events that commemorates the historical journey of African Americans, inviting us to slow down, look deeper, and recognize the enduring resonance of Black people everywhere. At the Carver Museum we celebrate Black History Month with deep pride in February, but we honor, protect, and teach Black History 365 days a year. Join us all month long at the Carver.
