Clawson Park Community Workday – Ecological Restoration Event
Postponed
City Council Districts 3 and 5
Project Summary
Clawson Neighborhood Park is entering the ecological restoration kickoff and pre-design phase. This early work focuses on improving the natural health of the site while beginning conversations with the community about the future of this 3-acre neighborhood park. Engagement and ecological restoration activities will help staff better understand community priorities before park amenities are considered. The first public event will take place on October 23, 2026 (register here).
Background
Clawson Neighborhood Park is a 3-acre property acquired in 2021 to help address parkland deficiency in the surrounding area. The park is located within a dense multifamily neighborhood and spans two council districts. The site includes floodplain areas and the headwaters of West Bouldin Creek, making environmental stewardship an important part of its care. Existing features include a natural pathway through a wooded greenbelt and a low-water crossing connecting Clawson Road to Rockdale Circle.
Project Description
The project aims to restore the natural health of the site while building connections with the community ahead of the park’s future improvements. Ecological restoration is both a stewardship effort and a way to engage neighbors in shaping the future of the park. Community input will guide the selection of pre-approved park amenities, ensuring the project reflects local needs while meeting City code and budget requirements.
Objectives
Strengthen the ecological health of the park through invasive species removal and creek headwaters protection.
Create an amenity plan that reflects the needs of the surrounding multifamily neighborhood and diverse park users.
Coordinate across City departments to address floodplain constraints, access, and infrastructure needs.
Provide a safe and welcoming public space that serves both District 3 and District 5.
Deliver a park development process that is transparent, equitable, and rooted in environmental stewardship.
Establish realistic, sustainable plans for the ongoing care and management of installed park improvements.
