Project Summary

Dragon Button Park is undergoing a Concept Plan to guide future uses of the park, including potential gathering spaces, park amenities, recreational use, tree planting, and environmental restoration. The park is a quarter-acre park located at 2701 E. 22nd Street and, currently, does not have any recreational amenities. The Concept Plan is anticipated to be completed in early 2027.

Background

The City of Austin is currently undergoing a strategic planning process for the African American Cultural Heritage District in East Austin. This plan is oriented around advancing community-driven strategies to honor Black heritage, prevent displacement, and support a vibrant, resilient district. As part of this effort, Dragon Button Park, located within the District, will receive a Concept Plan, which will set forth a vision for the future of the park. This project is being completed as a collaborative effort between Austin Parks and Recreation and Austin Economic Development.
