Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center
About
Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center is named in honor of General Ignacio Zaragoza; born in what is now Goliad, Texas, he was commander of the Mexican forces that routed the French Army on Cinco de Mayo in 1862 in the Battle of Puebla. Voters approved funding the recreation center in the 1992 bond election, and the grand opening happened on May 5, 1996, during the Cinco de Mayo celebration. In 2017, Parque Zaragoza Neighborhood Park was awarded the Lone Star Legacy Park Award through the Texas Recreation & Park Society.
