Summary

The Piney Bend Neighborhood Park Playscape Replacement Project will replace the current play structure and swings and surface around these amenities. The future playscape will have updated amenities, including ADA compliant connectivity and increased shade.

Background

Piney Bend Playground currently has an aging multi-level playscape, a two-bay swing-set, and tables and benches that offer opportunities for neighborhood gatherings and play.  Previous improvements to the site included a new solar lighting pole in 2018.

Project Description

This project will retain the existing footprint and replace the traditional playscape and swings with new equipment. The existing sidewalk will be replaced with a new ADA compliant sidewalk, and new shade will be provided within the park. The project will serve families, children, caregivers, and visitors who use the space.

The project is taking place from late 2026 through Early 2027. Design and community engagement will occur in October and November, followed by purchasing and construction (anticipated Early 2027).

Objectives:

  • Provide new play equipment.
  • Update access to current 2010 ADA Standards.
  • Provide shade to gathering spaces and playground.

Anticipated Schedule

  • Oct 2026-Nov 2026: Community engagement to establish community priorities
  • Nov 2026 – Dec 2026: Design and Purchase playground equipment and shade
  • Early 2027: Construction begins
  • Spring 2027: Park opens to public

Communication and Engagement

Community members are invited to help shape the new playscape equipment and shading. Engagement opportunities will include online surveys, and pop-up opportunities. We will keep the community informed about opportunities to give feedback and the project process, listen to ideas and suggestions, and show how your feedback influences the design.
