MoveOutATX Donation Stations and Free Furniture Market Return to UT Area

AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin is partnering with the University of Texas at Austin to host MoveOutATX July 25–31.

The annual event offers a convenient way for students to give their gently used items a second life. Students can drop off furniture, household items, small appliances, clothing, cleaning supplies, unopened food and more at donation stations throughout North and West Campus from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Items will only be accepted during operating hours.

Donated furniture items will be available to the Austin community at the Free Furniture Market at UT-Austin’s Whitaker Courts Parking Lot, at 287 West 51st St. (near the tennis courts), from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 and Monday, July 27.   

Items at the market are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Participants must load and transport items themselves and will be required to sign a liability waiver. There is a limit of two pieces of furniture per person. Furniture sets (dining room table and chairs, matching chairs, nightstand pairs, etc.) are considered one item.

Community volunteers are needed to staff the Free Furniture Market.  Volunteers can sign up for 2.5-hour shifts and will receive cold water, electrolyte drinks, snacks, cool-it towels and discounts to local businesses.

“We’re excited to host MoveOutATX again this year to make it easy for students to donate items they no longer need,” said Austin Resource Recovery Director Richard McHale. “This event helps keep usable items out of the landfill while supporting local reuse organizations and community members who can put them to good use.”

Donation stations are open daily, July 25–31, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
