Plastic waste is problematic for many reasons. Plastic can take hundreds of years to decompose and cause health issues for humans and animals. The City of Austin supports reducing plastic waste and recycling plastics properly.

Austin has a goal of reaching zero waste by 2040, which means reducing the amount of trash sent to landfills by 90%.
