Danny G. McBeth Recreation Center and Annex provides social opportunities through quality programs that challenge, support and teach leisure skills for the citizens of Austin with differing abilities. The center offers year-round programs for youth, teens, and adults.

The center was named after Danny G. McBeth who was active in advocating for rights and services for individuals with disabilities. The site has been providing inclusive and adaptive programs since February 1986.

Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is proud to offer Therapeutic Recreation Services to provide safe, accessible, fun and supportive recreation environments for all persons no matter their abilities. PARD’s Therapeutic Recreation Services include both adaptive and inclusive programs which are facilitated and supported by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS).

Sprout Into Success

Sprout into Success is a Recreation Therapy program designed by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist for children ages 6-11. Sessions are implemented in a group setting and are one hour in duration. The main goal of the program is to improve fine and gross motor skills and develop appropriate social skills with peers.
 

Parent and TOT Program

The goal of theParent and TOT programis to improve communication, motor and social skills and foster a positive child and parent relationship. Interventions will include hands on learning through: musical activities, sensory exploration, sign language, creative arts and more. Parent participation is required. Staff will not assist in toileting or changing.

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist staff will complete an assessment for all participants prior to the start of each program to develop goals and objectives specific to each individual’s needs. Please register using the "Online Registration" link at the top of the webpage. 

 

Therapeutic Summer Camps

Therapeutic Summer Camps

  • McBeth Recreation Center will be offering 10 weeks of summer fun. Join us as we create cool arts and craft projects and play tons of games. Every week will focus on a different theme and special event. There will also be fun and exciting field trips to explore our parks, swim at local city of Austin pools and play some bowling games... just to name a few!

    • Camp Wonder: Youth Camp ages 6-11
    • Teen Camp: ages 12-16
    • Young Adult Camp: ages 17-21

McBeth Therapeutic Summer Camps specialize in providing adaptive programming to individuals with special needs. Camps are staffed at a 1:4 staff to participant ratio to provide reasonable accommodations to those needing extra assistance.

 

Adult Therapeutic Programs

Adult Therapeutic Programs

McBeth Recreation Center offers therapeutic recreation enrichment programs for adults with varying needs. The center is the founding location of the Good Neighbor Adventure Club (GNAC) adult day program. GNAC provides daily opportunities for adults with disabilities to have fun while developing leisure and social skills. Additional outreach programs include Grub Club, Warrior Fitness Club, recreation bowling, and dances every third Saturday. We are constantly offering new programs, so please call to learn what’s next!

 

McBeth Adaptive Sports

McBeth Adaptive Sports

McBeth Adaptive Sports provides individuals of all abilities the opportunity to improve sports skills, build confidence, and engage with peers and to participate in Special Olympics Texas area and state competitions. Current sports vary throughout the year with the Special Olympics Texas competition schedule. Go Warriors!
