Rebate Tax Reporting Update

According to IRS tax regulation, water conservation rebates totaling $600 or more within the same calendar year are considered miscellaneous income and may be taxable by the IRS. To comply with these regulations, applicants who meet this threshold are required to provide additional information to Austin Water Conservation prior to rebate approval. This information includes either the applicant’s social security number or a signed, completed W-9 Form. If identified as applicable, an Austin Water Conservation team member will contact the applicant with further instructions.

Customers of Austin Water or a qualifying water provider can receive rebates and incentives by taking steps to conserve water.
