Emergency Plans

Emergency Plans and Publications

Austin Emergency Management (AEM) prepares detailed plans for the emergency situations likely to impact Central Texas. AEM also publishes after action reports following major incidents to document the actions the City took to prepare, respond, and recover from the incident and how to improve City operations going forward.

We welcome all Austinites to access these plans and publications to learn more about what the City of Austin is doing to prepare for the next emergency.

Updated 2026 Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (Feedback Needed!)

Austin Emergency Management (AEM) has developed the City of Austin Hazard Mitigation Action Plan. A draft copy of the Plan is available for the public to review and to provide comments. The purpose of developing the Plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards that impact the area, such as severe weather, floods, or wildfires, through effective mitigation.

AEM is gathering input on the draft plan until May 14th, 2026. The draft plan can be viewed by clicking the down below. Comments can be emailed to pmorris@h2opartnersusa.com.
