Project Overview
As we prepare for the needs of the future, Austin Water is strengthening our community’s water and wastewater infrastructure with the Renewing Austin program. The Hyde Park - East 38th Street Wastewater Pipeline Renewal Project is part of this work, and through this project Austin Water will replace approximately 1,800 linear feet of aged wastewater mains lines and 46 linear feet of service lines. The new lines will be installed on East 38th Street from Grooms to Tom Green Avenue, Grooms Street from East 35th to East 38th, Griffith Street from East 37th to East 38th, and two alleys.
The current lines are deteriorating, putting the area at increased risk for wastewater overflows, and we are glad we can fortify the wastewater system in this area. For this project, contractors will use a process called “open cut trenching,” digging into the ground to excavate old lines and install the new pipes. The trenches will be temporarily repaired while the project is under construction. When the entire project is completed, the streets impacted by this construction will be repaved.
Timeline
We anticipate that construction will begin in April 2025 and take approximately 13 months to complete.
Communications
Construction is scheduled to start in April 2025. Please join us Tuesday, March 25 for an online public meeting to meet the project team, ask questions, and learn what to expect during construction.
