Project Update
Within the next one to two weeks, the contractor for the Westgate project will begin installation of new water and wastewater lines in Area 3 (see map link below). The contractor plans to begin with the new wastewater line that will go along Fair Oaks Drive between Menchaca Road and Periwinkle Pass, starting near Menchaca.
The contractor will also be working on a waterline installation at the intersection of Menchaca and Fair Oaks. Both installations will take several months to complete.
Please note: crews will continue to work on Pack Saddle Pass as well.
To prepare for the work in Area 3, the contractor is setting up environmental protections such as fencing and tree guards. When the protections are in place, crews will begin excavating trenches in the city’s right of way, for line installations. Please note: the city’s ROW often extends 10-15 feet behind the curb, in an area you may consider part of your lawn. All areas will be restored when construction is finished.
For impacted homes, crews will most likely be working in front of your house at least once. If you need to get out of your driveway and are blocked in, please let the crews know, and they will make sure you can exit. Once the entire Westgate project is completed, the contractor will repave all impacted streets.
We realize construction is disruptive, and we appreciate your patience. Improved infrastructure in your neighborhood will help ensure reliable service today, while we prepare for the needs of tomorrow.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Construction Inspector Justin Trevino, cell phone 512-905-7300.
Project Overview
As part of the Renewing Austin program, Austin Water is bringing improvements to the wastewater system in the Westgate neighborhood. We have documented a number of overflows in this area, and new lines will help us conserve water, improve reliability for customers, and reduce expenditures on frequently breaking lines.
The Westgate Neighborhood Wastewater Renewal Project will take place in the parts of the Williamson Creek Basin that sit in the Westgate, Franklin Park, and South Creek neighborhoods. We will rehabilitate 12,300 linear feet of wastewater lines and 1,050 linear feet of water lines. The Watershed Protection Department will rehabilitate 200 linear feet of stormwater line during this project as well.
We will partner with the City of Austin’s Capital Delivery Services (CDS) Division for the construction phase of this project, which will be managed by CDS project management staff.
Timeline
Construction is scheduled to begin in late August 2024 and take approximately 19 months to complete. Streets disturbed by construction during this project will be repaved when the entire project is complete.
