Austin Museum Day at the Hezikiah Haskell House
The Hezikiah Haskell House will be part of Austin Museum Day on September 20. This city-wide event attracts hundreds of participants. On Austin Museum Day, Haskell House docents will be on hand to talk with visitors about the history of the House, which was built by a formerly enslaved man around 1875 and later owned by Hezikiah Haskell and his family. Haskell fought on the side of the Union Army and served as a Buffalo Soldier. Visitors will also learn about the history of Clarksville, an early Texas freedom community on the National Register of Historic Places. There will be handouts, free refreshments, and blues and soul music by the popular "Soul Man Sam" and his band. The Haskell House will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the music will start at 2:00 p.m.
