April Pool’s Day, observed on April 1, serves as a reminder to prioritize water safety and drowning prevention. One of the best ways to stay safe is to become a strong swimmer and always swim in a lifeguarded pool.

Taking swim lessons and joining a swim team can reduce drowning risk by imparting essential water safety skills, building confidence, and improving swimming abilities. Strong swimming skills can reduce panic in emergencies, improve physical coordination, and even enhance cognitive development. Registration for Swim Lessons is now open! Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your skills, aquatic staff offer instructional programs for all ages, from infants (6 months) to adults.

The recreational Swim Team Program emphasizes good sportsmanship, team spirit and lifelong fitness and aims to build swimmers’ self-esteem through the enhancement of physical competence and mental fitness. To register, go to AustinTexas.gov/ParksOnline.
