Over the past two years, APD has been investigating burglary of vehicles in Northwest Austin. In many of these incidents, guns were stolen from vehicles. While the numbers have decreased since January 2024, these burglaries are still occurring, and guns are still being stolen.

APD would like to remind our community of the following tips to prevent these incidents from occurring and what steps to take if they do happen.

  • Never leave a gun anywhere in your vehicle
  • If you own a gun, keep written or photo record of the serial number, make, and model of your gun so it can be properly reported if stolen
  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Always lock your vehicles and set the alarm if your vehicle has one
  • Never leave your keys in your vehicle
  • Never leave your vehicle running

We would also like to encourage our community to report suspicious activity; if you see something, say something. Call 9-1-1 for any emergencies and Austin 3-1-1 or report online via www.Ireportaustin.com for non-emergencies.
