Cooling Tower Efficiency Program

All properties with cooling towers must register them with Austin Water. Registration information helps identify potential water-saving upgrades and available rebates. All properties must also submit annual inspection forms.

Inspections must be performed by an independent, third-party Texas licensed mechanical or chemical engineer, or a person holding a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License, Class A, with a combined endorsement for process cooling and refrigeration.

Registration and Inspection Due Dates

  • Registration — New cooling towers must be registered before operation.
  • Annual inspections — Inspection forms must be submitted by March 1 each year. Inspections must be performed no more than 90 days before the March 1 due date.

Rebates

Rebates are available for retrofitting cooling towers to improve water efficiency through the Bucks for Business program. To qualify, Austin Water must have received a complete registration form and inspection form for each cooling tower.
