Elmhurst Drive Wastewater Renewal

Project Overview

To protect the environment from potential leaks and wastewater overflows, Austin Water will rehabilitate and replace approximately 8,600 linear feet of deteriorating wastewater lines and 1,326 linear feet of deteriorating water lines with the Elmhurst Drive Wastewater Renewal Project.

Most of the lines impacted by this project will be rehabilitated to a like-new state through a process called Cured-In-Place-Pipe, a less invasive technique for replacing pipes than traditional trench cut work. Cured-In-Place-Pipe, or CIPP, involves inserting a resin-infused liner into a pipe, then using hot steam to activate the resin, causing the resin to cure (harden). In some areas, new lines will be installed through traditional “trench cut” work, which requires the contractor to cut through into asphalt and excavate a trench for placement of the new pipeline.

Timeline

We anticipate construction will begin in fall of 2026 and take about 12 months to complete.
