Northwest A & B Improvements
Project Overview
Austin Water is improving water service in the Northwest A & B Pressure Zones, an area in Northwest Austin west of US 183 and Jollyville Road and north of Loop 360. These proposed upgrades will improve water pressure and the flow rate to fire hydrants in this area.
Three Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) stations will be installed throughout the Great Hills and Jollyville neighborhoods, and a fourth PRV station will be installed near the intersection of Howard Lane and Metric Boulevard. Austin Water will also install new water mains, remove and replace some existing water mains and relocate a section of an existing storm drain pipe.
Approximately 150 individual PRVs will also be installed on water service lines behind the water meter on the property owner's side at no cost to property owners. Thermal Expansion Tanks (TETs) will also be installed free of charge on existing water heaters, which will require a licensed, bonded and certified plumbing subcontractor to enter affected homes and businesses. Property owners affected by these installations will receive letters in June 2026 with a Right-of-Entry (ROE) form to accept or decline installation of the individual PRVs and TETs.
Timeline
Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2026 and take approximately two years to complete. The extended timeline reflects the limestone bedrock conditions in the area and the scope of work, which includes individual PRV and TET installations at nearly 150 properties, construction of four PRV stations and full replacement and restoration of affected roadways.
Communications
Austin Water will hold an in-person community meeting with a virtual option on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Spicewood Springs Public Library, 8637 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, TX 78759. The meeting will introduce neighbors to the project and provide an opportunity to ask questions before property owner letters are sent.
