All properties with cooling towers must register them with Austin Water. Registration helps identify potential water-saving upgrades and available rebates.
All properties must also submit annual inspection forms. Inspections must be performed by an independent, third-party Texas-licensed mechanical or chemical engineer, or a person holding a TDLR Texas Air Conditioning and Refrigeration License (Class A) with a combined endorsement for process cooling and refrigeration.
Registration and Inspection Due Dates
Registration: New cooling towers must be registered before operation.
Annual inspections: Inspection forms must be submitted by March 1 each year. Inspections must be performed no more than 90 days before the March 1 due date.
Rebates and Incentives
Rebates are available for retrofitting cooling towers to improve water efficiency through the Bucks for Business rebate program.
To qualify, Austin Water must have received a complete registration and inspection form for each cooling tower.
