Colony Park Waterline Renewal

Austin Water is replacing more than 1.75 miles of water mains in Colony Park.

The Colony Park Waterline Renewal Project will replace approximately 9,263 linear feet of water main. This work is part of Renewing Austin, Austin Water's program to replace aging pipes throughout the city.

We have documented frequent water line breaks in Colony Park, and this project will bring stronger, more reliable infrastructure to the neighborhood. Contractors will use a construction method called open-cut trenching, excavating the ground to remove old lines and install new ones. All streets affected by construction will be repaved when work is complete.

Update

Construction is scheduled to begin within the next six weeks. We invite you to a virtual public meeting to learn more about the project, meet the contractor and project team, and ask questions about the work and its impacts.

What to Expect

  • Work days are typically Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Some weekend work may be needed. You can expect to hear heavy equipment during work hours. The City's noise ordinance applies after 10 p.m.
  • We will close lanes of traffic as needed but will not close entire streets. You will always have access to your home, though driveway access may be briefly limited at times.
  • At some point during construction, water will be temporarily turned off, but only for a few hours in most cases. We will post a flyer on your door before any planned shutoff. In rare emergency situations, water may be turned off without advance notice.
  • Most work will be limited to the City's right of way, which in many cases runs between the street and the sidewalk in an area you may consider part of your lawn. We will notify you before work begins on your street so you can move plants or personal items. If you have irrigation pipes, retaining walls or other landscaping features in the right of way, we recommend moving them before construction begins. Repairs to features damaged within the right of way are the responsibility of the property owner.

Timeline

We anticipate that construction will begin in spring 2026 and take 2 years to complete.
