Oltorf Street Reclaimed Water Main Phase 2

Project Overview

Reclaimed water is highly treated wastewater purified to near drinking-water quality. It is used to irrigate fields, support manufacturing, cool buildings and more. By reusing water that would otherwise return to the Colorado River, Austin Water extends our regional water supply and reduces demand on drinking water sources. Reclaimed water, also known as recycled water, travels underground through pipes painted purple to visually distinguish them from the blue pipes that carry drinking water — which is why it's often called "Purple Pipe."

Austin Water has installed miles of purple pipe across the city and is working to complete a central reclaimed water ring. The Oltorf Reclaimed Water Project Phase 2 will complete this core network by installing 7,000 linear feet of purple pipe along Oltorf Street, Parker Lane, Mariposa Drive and Travis Heights Boulevard. The project will also install approximately 1,600 linear feet of larger-diameter water pipes to support increased water pressure in the area.
