FAQs about Expansion Phase 2

The ESB MACC building closed to the public in January 2023. The MACC building will be closed in 2023, 2024, and 2025 and the reopening was on June 6, 2026.  View our Grand Reopening page for more details on the June 6th event.

Updates about the Phase 2 plans, including the schematic drawings for the building, can be found on the Phase 2 Project Page. The ESB MACC also created an online exhibit about Phase 2 that chronicles the history of our building plans and shows drawings of the new plans. View the History of the ESB MACC Building Online Exhibit. This exhibit is also available in Espanol.

The ESB MACC continued to host programs and events, when the building was closed for renovation & expansion. We have utilized Recreation Centers, Libraries, Cultural Centers, Community Centers, and Schools.

Some of the specific locations that have hosted our programs include the Dove Springs Recreation Center, Conley Guerrero Senior Center, Rudy Mendez Recreation Center, Parque Zaragoza Recreation Center, Austin Central Library, The George Washington Carver Museum and Genealogy Center, the Asian American Resource Center, and the Dougherty Arts Center. We could not have done this without our partners at those Centers and the support of various departments in the City of Austin including Austin Parks and Recreation. It has also given the ESB MACC new opportunities to host programs in other places, especially in underserved areas of Austin.

View upcoming programs on our ESB MACC Event Calendar.

If you would like to host a program, email MACCEVENTS@austintexas.gov and tell us about your program. You can find out more information about collaborations on the Collaboration Request page.

Visitors to the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center Pocket Park, or ESB MACC Pocket Park, might have notice a few changes to the park since 2024.

The current project at 64 Rainey Street is a temporary park improvement. The improved space features donated park furniture from Canvus. The ESB-MACC Caminos students painted the furniture with murals in Spring 2025. This was seen as an opportunity to activate the space until construction on the permanent park begins.
