Welcome to the Carver Museum
Through the preservation and exhibition of African American material culture, history, and aesthetic expression, the Carver Museum works to create a space where the global contributions of all Black people are celebrated. We accomplish this by telling stories about our local community and connecting those histories to larger narratives about Blackness. The Carver Museum is free and open to the public.

Seeing Further
As the summer season comes to a close and fall approaches, The Carver sends off exhibit, Seeing Further, with an artist talk and closing reception. Join us on Thursday, October the 8th from 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. , with a special exhibition walkthrough led by the artist and curator at 7:30 p.m.
The exhibition is on view from May 14, 2026 to October 10, 2026 during normal museum hours. Free and open to all.

SCARS- The Legacy is a powerful theatrical experience rooted in the playwright's lived experiences, exploring the struggles, triumphs, and resilience of Black people while revealing the universal truths that connect us all. History, culture and art exhibits curated to educate and inspire. The Carver Museum has two rotating art galleries as well as four permanent exhibits honoring African-Americans in Austin and beyond.

The Carver provides culture and arts based programming free and for all ages to allow visitors to connect with community through special events and ongoing learning experiences.
- Educational Programs and Classes
The Carver offers culture and arts classes and educational programs.
- Genealogy Center
The Genealogy Center provides genealogy databases, workshops and seminars. All resources are free and open to the public.
- Rentals
The George Washington Carver Museum, Genealogy and Cultural Center offers the Boyd Vance Theatre and one indoor atrium space for rental. Events can be either private or public.
