Join us at the Old Bakery & Emporium on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, for the opening reception of Catching the Light: Works by Madelon Umlauf (1942 - 2025).
Madelon Umlauf (1942-2025) was a talented artist and respected educator born and raised in Austin, Texas. The daughter of famed sculptor Charles Umlauf and poet Angie Umlauf, Madelon grew up in a very creative environment. Madelon’s family legacy includes the beloved UMLAUF Sculpture Garden and Museum, which they gifted to The City of Austin in 1985.
Catching the Light presents the final solo exhibition of Austin-based abstract painter Madelon Umlauf, whose work bridges nature, perception, and intuition through luminous color and form. This exhibition honors Umlauf’s lifelong dedication to painting, teaching, and living artfully, offering viewers a final opportunity to experience a body of work marked by clarity, restraint, and profound sensitivity to the world.
The opening reception will feature live music from local jazz guitarist Jacob Wise.
