On April 14, 2025, at approximately 8:43 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers and Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) responded to a Check Welfare call at the Onyx 183 apartments located at 6800 McNeil Drive. The caller advised she had not heard from her female friend in almost a week. Officers arrived on scene and located both a deceased male and a deceased female inside the residence. The decedents were later identified as Jade Herb and Christopher Rasco.
 
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. Based on information gathered during the preliminary stages of this investigation, evidence suggests this was a murder-suicide, in which Christopher killed his girlfriend then later killed himself. This appears to be an isolated incident and it is not believed there is any danger to the public.
