About Us

The Workforce Development & Child Care Division connects Austin residents to pathways toward economic opportunity through education, job readiness, youth programs, and wraparound support services. The Division empowers individuals and families by providing equitable access to career training, digital skills, and workforce programs that respond to Austin’s growing economy.

Division Workgroups

Community Technology
The Community Technology program bridges the digital divide by expanding public access to technology, enhancing digital literacy, and ensuring all Austinites can participate in today’s connected economy.

Youth Initiatives
The Youth Initiatives workgroup empowers Austin’s youth from all City Council districts with the skills to lead in education, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, community development, and career exploration. The goal is to ensure all youth are being heard to help shape a more inclusive, youth-friendly Austin.

Day Labor Program
The Day Labor program connects workers with safe, dignified, and temporary job opportunities while helping employers access a ready and reliable workforce. Staff provide job matching, basic needs support, and community referrals.

Austin Civilian Conservation Corps (ACCC)
A workforce and readiness program that provides individuals with on-the-job experiences for careers in the conservation and environmental fields. Participants gain valuable skills and income while contributing to projects that strengthen Austin’s sustainability and resilience.

Workforce Development
This team collaborates with job seekers, employers, and community partners to align workforce and industry needs. Their focus is on building workforce capacity and developing career pathways in high-demand fields, especially for historically underserved communities.

Child Care
Works to increase the availability of high-quality, affordable childcare, especially in childcare deserts. This includes investments and policy considerations for stabilizing the childcare sector, a key support necessary for working families.
