Krieg Athletic Complex Reclaimed Water

Project Overview

This project replaces 1,150 feet of 16-inch reclaimed water main damaged by flooding and erosion. It will restore reclaimed water service to the ballfields at Krieg Field and the Austin Parks and Recreation bulk fill station.

For this project our crews will use horizontal directional drilling, a tunneling method that avoids trenching, to install the new line beneath the erosion hazard zone. This protects the new line from the damage that affected the old one.

Reclaimed Water

Reclaimed water is highly purified wastewater that Austin Water would otherwise discharge to the Colorado River. Instead, we store some of this water in tanks and pump it to customers for non-drinking uses such as irrigation, cooling, toilet flushing and manufacturing. Using reclaimed water conserves our drinking water supply.
