Bull Creek Preserve Permit Overview

All available 2022 permits have been issued. Information about 2023 permits will be posted on this page in January.

  • Please note: A limited number of permits are available.  

  • Bull Creek Preserve Entry Permits are issued in January & February each year, just before the Golden-cheeked Warbler breeding season begins in March.
  • A permit is only required March-July. The trail is open to all users August through February.
  • Permits are good for three seasons, so a permit issued in February 2019 will expire August 2021.

How to Earn a New Bull Creek Preserve Permit

  1. Log in to the Wildlands Database: www.austintexas.gov/wildlandevents
    • If you have registered for a Wildland hike, permit or event previously, you will have an account. Use your email as your username and enter your password. If you need to reset your password, click reset password.
    • If you do not have an account, click create account.
  2. Updated 1/20/22: Register for one of the followingBull Creek Preserve Permit webinars. We had planned to meet in-person for hikes, but due to the current stage of the pandemic, we will host webinars instead. You must attend a live webinar to earn a permit. Please note that because we can grant a maximum of 80 permits each year, on a first-come, first-served basis, attending a webinar does not guarantee you a permit for this year.
    • Saturday, January 29 from 9-10am
    • Thursday, February 3 from 5-6pm
  3. Earn an 80% or better on the Bull Creek Permit quiz
    • The quiz is located in the Activities menu at the top of the Wildlands Database.
    • The quiz can be a bit challenging. It is suggested that one review the material at www.austintexas.gov/ecoweb before taking the quiz.
  4. Enter your physical address information in the Wildland Database(select My Account à My Profile à Address)
  5. Upload a photo to the Wildland Database system (select My Account à My Profile à Photo)
  6. Complete all of these steps by February 6, and your permit will be mailed to your physical address by March 1.

How to Renew a Bull Creek Preserve Permit

  1. Log in to the Wildlands Database: www.austintexas.gov/wildlandevents
    • If you are renewing a permit, you will have an account. Use your email as your username and enter your password. It is important to sign in with the email previously used to earn a permit. If you need to reset your password, click reset password.
  2. Earn an 80 or better on the Bull Creek Permit quiz
    • Select Bull Creek Preserve Permit Test in the Activities menu in the Wildlands Database.
    • The quiz can be a bit tricky and it is suggested that one review the material at www.austintexas.gov/ecoweb before taking the quiz.
  3. Upload a photo to the Wildland Database system (select My Account à My Profile à Photo)
  4. Update your physical address information in the Wildland Database system (select My Account à My Profile à Address)
  5. Complete all of these steps by February 1, and your permit will be mailed to your updated physical address by March 1.
