NOTE: We have reached the limit for Bull Creek Permits this year. Please check back in December 2020 to apply for a 2021 permit.

Bull Creek Preserve Permit Overview

  • Bull Creek Preserve Entry Permits are issued in January & February each year, just before the golden-cheeked warbler breeding season begins in March.
  • A permit is only required March-July. The trail is open to all users August through February.
  • Permits are good for three seasons so a permit issued in February 2015 will expire August 2017.

How To Earn A New Bull Creek Preserve Permit

  1. Login to the Wildlands Database. www.austintexas.gov/wildlandevents
    • If you have registered for a Wildland hike, permit or event previously, you will have an account. Use your email as your username and click reset password to gain access.
    • If you do not have an account, click create account.
  2. Register for a Bull Creek Preserve Permit Hike within the Wildlands Database.
    • Hikes fill-up quickly, and space is a on a first come first basis. One must attend a hike to earn a permit. Registration for hikes begin in January each year with the hikes taking place in February.
  3. Earn an 80 or better on the Bull Creek Permit quiz.
    • The quiz is on the right-hand side menu in the Wildlands Database.
    • The quiz can be a bit tricky and it is suggested that one review the material at www.austintexas.gov/ecoweb before taking the quiz.
  4. Upload a photo to the Wildland Database system.
    • Complete all of these steps at least one week before your scheduled hike.
  5. Permits will be distributed at each hike.

How To Renew A Bull Creek Preserve Permit

  1. Login to the Wildlands Database. www.austintexas.gov/wildlandevents
    • If you are renewing a permit, you will have an account. Use your email as your username and click reset password. It is important to use the email previously used to earn a permit.
  2. Earn an 80 or better on the Bull Creek Permit quiz.
    • The quiz is on the right-hand side menu in the Wildlands Database.
    • The quiz can be a bit tricky and it is suggested that one review the material at www.austintexas.gov/ecoweb before taking the quiz.
  3. Upload a photo to the Wildland Database system.
  4. Update your physical address information in the Wildland Database system.
  5. Complete all of these steps by February 1st, and your permit will be mailed to your updated physical address by March 1st.
