Join us at the Old Bakery & Emporium on Tuesday, March 3rd, for a hands-on community art workshop hosted by artist Gil Rocha. Participants will explore themes of travel, migration, and memory to create visual responses using collage, drawing, and shared materials inspired by personal journeys and collective stories.
Why this Matters:
This workshop directly informs a new public artwork planned for the new Departure-Ticketing area at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Your stories, symbols, and materials may help shape elements of the final artwork, making it a true reflection of the Austin community.
What You'll Do:
Reflect on personal or family journeys. Share memories of travel, migration, or transition. Create small-scale artworks using provided materials. Contribute ideas that may influence a permanent public artwork. (No art experience necessary)
Who Can Participate:
Open to all ages. Families, students, travelers, longtime Austinites, newcomers. Free and open to the public!
Hosted by Gil Rocha Public Art Projects in Partnership with the Old Bakery & Emporium.
Commissioned by the City of Austin through the Art in Public Places Program and sponsored by Austin Aviation.
