Project Overview
Austin Water is strengthening the resiliency of our water distribution system with the Davis Medium Service Water Transmission Main project. This project is currently in preliminary design phase to design a large diameter water transmission main from Davis Water Treatment Plan to east Austin. The project is also a recommendation from the Winter Storm Uri After Action Report to reliably deliver water for the Austin area.
Project Scope:
- Installation of approximately 6.5 miles of tunneled 84” diameter water transmission main from Davis Water Treatment Plant to the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Springdale Road
Project Benefits:
- Water Resiliency: The transmission main will deliver water more reliably to farther reaches of the distribution system. Increasing usage of the Davis Water Treatment Plant also allows Ullrich Water Treatment Plant to more reliably deliver water to its service area.
- Minimal disruption: Construction with tunnelling method will significantly reduce construction impacts to the public compared to open-cut trenched construction.
