West Riverside Reclaimed Water Main

Project Overview

The West Riverside Reclaimed Water Main is part of a series of projects that will provide redundancy and reliability of service to reclaimed water customers in Austin.

The project includes installation of approximately 2,800 linear feet of 24-inch pipeline from S 1st St to Lee Barton Dr. It will be installed mostly by conventional open trench, but about 650 feet will be installed via Horizontal Directional Drilling. The project will facilitate further expansion of the reclaimed system. Potential service connections to the new reclaimed water main includes Town Lake Metro Park at Auditorium Shores.

Connecting to Reclaimed Water

Reclaimed water is highly purified wastewater that is ordinarily discharged to the Colorado River. Austin Water takes some of the water, stores it in tanks and pumps it to customers for non-drinking uses such as irrigation, cooling, toilet flushing and manufacturing. Using reclaimed water conserves our drinking water supply.

If you are interested in having a reclaimed water connection, let us know and we can provide information on what is involved. After paying for a meter, we’ll arrange with our contractor to install a service line and meter box. The cost of a connection can be substantially reduced if it is done with the construction of the main.
