Journey With AUS - Traveler Information: Construction Updates

We're improving and transforming the airport through our Journey With AUS program! Construction work in the terminal may be visible to passengers as we make improvements. Current terminal construction activities are below.

Ongoing - Early November: New Outbound Baggage Handling System

Project: Demolition of the existing Baggage Claim ceiling to clear the necessary right of way for the new Baggage Handling System upgrades.

Activity: Ceiling work is taking place above the baggage claim area by carousels 4 – 7. Nightly partial closures of the walkway in front of the carousels may happen during construction hours.


August 2023 - September 2023: Terminal Restroom Improvements

Project: Upgrades to bathrooms across the terminal including the East Food Court Restrooms and the West Food Court Restrooms. 

Activity: The food court restrooms on the East and West end of the terminal will be undergoing upgrades in 2 phases. The East Food Court restrooms will begin work on August 14th and are scheduled to be completed by September 8th. Work on the West Food Court restrooms will begin mid-September.  


August 2023 - Late 2026: West Gate Expansion

ProjectAddition of 84,500 gross sq ft over three levels. 30,000 sq ft on the concourse level including a new 3rd level mezzanine and apron-level airline support space for new passenger amenities. Also included in the project scope are the replacement of 12 current gate boarding bridges and the creation of 3 new gates to offset gate closures during future expansion projects. 

ActivityStarting August 2023 until project completion, estimated to be in 2026, passengers can expect to see construction activity with temporary walls and barriers. I VINI restaurant kiosk will be closed permanently beginning January 2024.
