The Austin Arts, Culture, Music, and Entertainment Art in Public Places (AIPP) program is looking for visual artists and artist-led teams to create new artworks for the city’s public places, backed by over $900,000 in artist commissions. Budgets for projects range from $90,000 to $300,000, giving artists resources to realize meaningful, lasting work.  Applications for the public art opportunities close at 5 p.m. on August 3, 2026.

“Every public art open call is an opportunity to invest in Austin’s creative community,” said Angela Means, Director of Arts, Culture, Music and Entertainment. “We want artists of all experience levels to see themselves as part of Austin’s creative ecosystem.”

Austin became the first municipality in Texas to adopt a percent for art ordinance in 1985. By ordinance, the City of Austin dedicates two percent of eligible capital improvement project budgets to commission artists and acquire artwork for City-owned property and facilities. For more than four decades, the Art in Public Places (AIPP) program has helped shape Austin’s cultural landscape with unique works of art informed by community that have become cornerstones of the city’s identity. The City of Austin’s public art collection can be found in a variety of civic spaces, including the airport, libraries, parks, police stations, recreation centers, and streetscapes, bringing art into the everyday life of the city for all residents and visitors to enjoy.
