Last-Minute Holiday Destinations for Your Festive Getaway

Ok, so you’ve probably rocked out to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for the 100th time now (no judgment, because same). But all we want for Christmas is you ... to have an amazing holiday getaway! Here are some of our recommendations for destinations for a last-minute excursion.

For those seeking a more traditional snowy getaway, Baltimore has multiple holiday traditions to enjoy like the Miracle on 34th Street lights and decorations and the German Christmas Village. Provo, Utah is a great landing spot to explore the Utah Valley, offering plenty of outdoor winter activities like skiing at the Sundance Mountain Resort and hiking to Fifth Water Hot Springs.

Cold weather might not be everyone’s thing, and coming from Austin, we get that. The holiday spirit shines just as bright in New Orleans with holiday lights decorating the French Quarter, ice skating at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and Christmas Eve bonfires on the levee. And for those looking to trade snow for sand, Cancun offers a tropical getaway where you can enjoy both the resort life and classic Mexican Christmas traditions. You might even run into Santa Claus who swapped out his sleigh for a jet ski! ... just don’t tell Mrs. Claus.

As we celebrate the changing of seasons (aka triple digit weather finally coming down), now’s the perfect time to plan your ideal holiday vacation. Check out our list* of nonstops here: https://www.austintexas.gov/department/nonstop-flights-out-aus

*Yes, we checked it twice and they’re all on the nice list.
