Construction Corner:

East Cargo Facility: Done and Dusted

Let's start with a big ol' victory shout – the East Cargo Facility structure is officially substantially complete! Breaking ground in 2022 was just the beginning. This facility isn't just a structure; it's a game-changer, boosting our capacity and efficiency in all things cargo and will give more space and amenities for cargo partners. Talk about delivering the goods, quite literally.

West Gate Expansion: Breaking New Ground

Breaking new ground took on a whole new meaning in 2023 as we set our sights on the West Gate Expansion. This ambitious project promises an extra 84,500 sq. ft. of space across the apron, concourse, and mezzanine levels. More space means more amenities – restrooms, waiting areas – all in the name of enhancing the overall traveler experience. We're not just expanding gates; we're expanding possibilities.

Outbound Baggage Handling System: Gearing Up for 4,000 Bags Per Hour

Ever wondered how fast bags can fly? Our new outbound baggage handling system has the answer. Construction is in full swing, and when this baby's done, it'll be processing a jaw-dropping 4,000 bags per hour. The countdown to the estimated full system completion in 2025 has officially begun – get ready to witness some serious baggage-handling magic.

Airline Fuel Facility: Fueling the Future

In a bid to keep up with the times, the Airline Fuel Facility project is sprinting towards completion. With an eye on the projected annual demand increase of 3 to 5%, we're gearing up to meet the fuel needs of the future. The finish line? 2024. Fasten your seatbelts; this one's going to be a quick journey.

Bye Bye Buildings: Making Room for the Future

Out with the old, in with the new! We said our farewells to over 30+ buildings this year, clearing the path for future airfield infrastructure. It's all part of the grand plan to build two midfield taxiways, and 2023 brought us 30 steps closer to that goal. Progress, one demolition at a time.

Fostering Partnerships Through Contractor Outreach:

Throughout the year, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has been at the forefront of fostering collaboration and building strong partnerships with contractors. Multiple outreach events, including the two highly successful Industry Day conferences in the spring and fall, served as platforms for engaging with the construction and development community. These events were instrumental in sharing the vision of the Journey With AUS program and establishing connections with contractors, both big primes and small firms, who will play pivotal roles in bringing our projects to fruition.
